Video Highlights from SLC 2020: Stop and Think Management Training

March 16, 2021
How well do you measure up as a safety leader? Learn some management strategies in this encore video presentation.

In this video, produced during last fall’s Safety Leadership Conference, two safety experts at Mohawk Industries explain how to measure workplace safety.

By looking beyond standard metrics, Mohawk—one of the largest flooring manufacturers in the world—developed a program that has lowered incident rates, created a more engaged workforce and increased workplace safety overall.

Learn how Donald Standridge, Mohawk’s corporate safety manager, and Mitchell Chastain, director of safety, loss prevention and security applied a safety foundational three-phase process called Stop & THINK throughout the organization. As they explain, the Stop & THINK foundation starts with a leadership training program involving all levels of leadership. “This training,” they explain, “is an essential element to the development of Mohawk’s leaders and has spearheaded our success.”

All safety leaders strive to be recognized as having a world-class safety structure, Standridge and Chastain acknowledge. The first step on the road to that kind of culture involves asking the question: What is the measurement that tells me I have arrived at world class? “The true measurement of world class safety is found in employee ownership,” they state. “It is when employees on the floor own safety that we see the true measurement of world class safety.”

In this video presentation, you’ll discover some of the tools you can use in your own workplace, and learn how to get employees involved and making safety their own.
