How to Stay Safe This July 4th

July 1, 2022
Independence Day means lots of gatherings and good times. Take action to make sure you, your family and friends enjoy the holiday safely.

Holiday weekends can be fun, but they can also be dangerous.

This year, AAA predicts 47.9 million people will travel 50 miles or more from home between June 30 and July 4. Of that forecast, 42 million are expected to travel by automobile.

The National Safety Council (NSC) estimates 462 people may lose their lives on U.S. roads this weekend in preventable crashes.

Independence Day is one of the most dangerous driving holidays of the year. As such, the NSC is urging all road users, whether they’re driving, biking or walking to be safe.

“Please take safety personally and follow our safe driving tips to ensure you get to where you want to go as safely as possible,” said Mark Chung, executive vice president of roadway practice at NSC. “Your life and those you love may depend on it.”

Th NSC, AAA and other organizations encourage drivers to follow safe driving practices this weekend and all year long. View the media gallery for six ways to safely get from Point A to Point B.
